The Order , formally known as the Bavarian Secret Order, was a short-lived society founded in 1776 from Adam Weishaupt, a lecturer at the University of Ingolstadt . At first , its goal was to challenge the influence of clericalism and irrational beliefs through the encouragement of enlightenment and individual liberty . Even though its reign was re
